Turtle Hatchery

For centuries turtles have been leaving the Ocean on moonlight nights to lay their eggs on the beaches of Sri Lanka. Over the years their numbers have been declining and several conservation projects have opened. This excursion takes you to one of these projects where you will be able to see Green, Loggerhead, Hawksbill and Olive Ridley turtles. You will see where they hatch, see the hatchlings and at dusk be able to release some baby turtles into the ocean. Beruwela Lighthouse

Take advantage of this superb vantage point to watch the sunset over the ocean and the fishing boats returning home to the harbour. With a cool drink in hand and a selection of canapés there is no better place to end the day. In high season (Nov – April) the lighthouse is reached by boat, cruising down the Bentota river and then along the coast. In the low season (May – Oct) this is unfortunately not possible due to rough seas and so the fishing harbour is use this as a launch point for the short trip across to the island. And the rest of the travel is done by road. As a result there is a 20% discount for low season bookings.
